CPAC: Conservative Pricks Assemble to Corrupt

The streets outside the Marriot Wardman Park hotel in Washington DC were alive on Friday, February 10th, 2011, as protestors affiliated with Occupy DC, the SEIU, the AFL-CIO and a host of allied organizations descended on the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, also known as CPAC. Participants traveled from as far away as Pittsburgh and New York City to demonstrate against money in politics, income inequality and a profusion of crimes and abuses perpetrated against the poor, working and middle classes.

CPAC does little to hide the fact that it is a product of and for the elite rich, with a full pass to the conferences costing 200 dollars, a one day pass at 75 dollars and media passes only awarded to a select few that have passed a rigorous background check that would make the FBI jealous. Due to this, we weren’t able to cover the most interesting of these conferences, the tantalizingly named “THE FAILURE OF MULTICULTURALISM” hosted by anti-immigrant fanatic Peter Brimelow and the hate group Youth for Western Civilization. Viking fetishist Kevin DeAnna and alcoholic nuisance Marcus Epstein were present, while Rep. Steve King (R-IA) and notable xenophobe John Derbyshire delivered speeches. Predictably, they chose to cower behind security checkpoints, bulletproof glass and hundreds of non-white police officers instead of daring to wade into the sea of untermenschen. Also present were Kevin Lamb from the white nationalist ProEnglish, Tim Dionisopoulos from Youth for Western Civilization, Jim Gilchrist from The Minuteklanmen and notorious snitch Brandon Darby.

Edwin Williams and Jim Gilchrist of the Minutemen

The specter of thousands of union steelworkers, maids and politically charged citizens exercising their fist amendment rights outside of a hotel was apparently enough to terrify attendees of CPAC, who hid behind phalanxes of riot police, barely venturing to the windows to snatch a peek at the lives they have been frittering away for the sake of greater profit. Referred to as the old stand-bys of “purveyors of chaos” and “union thugs” by histrionic fear-mongers in the right-wing echo-chamber, the demonstration on Friday was largely peaceful, despite vehement fulminations by apologists for the 1% to force all of these “welfare recipients” into “work camps and gas chambers.”

This has been the first major protest organized against CPAC in its nearly forty-year run.

Now They Want to Kill The Pill!

(Tip credit-Right Wing Watch)

On the 50th anniversary of the availability of the birth control pill, the “fetus people” are coming to DC to protest and try to intimidate the Planned Parenthood office on 16th st.

Here is their call

WHO: American Life League , Human Life International, Pro-Life Wisconsin, Pharmacists for Life International, Archdiocese of Mobile Respect Life, Operation Rescue, Jill Stanek, Generation Life/Brandi Swindell, Life Education Ministry, Pro-Life Unity, Movement for a Better America, AMEN (Abortion Must End Now), Pro-Life Action of Oregon, Children of God for Life, Expectant Mother Care/Chris Slattery, Mother and Unborn Baby Care, Defenders of the Unborn, California Right to Life Education Fund, Delaware Pro-Life Coalition, Life Guard, Homeschoolers for Life, Focus Pregnancy Center, Central Texas Voices for Life and Dubuque County Right to Life

WHAT: Protest the Pill Day 2010: The Pill Kills the Environment

This year, birth control advocates are celebrating 50 years of decriminalized hormonal contraceptives. American Life League and our co-sponsors don’t think half a century of contaminating our waterways is something to celebrate. Study after study has shown that hormonal estrogen in the water has severely damaged the ecosystem and our health.

WHEN: June 5, 2010, 11 a.m.

WHERE: Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington D.C. 1108 16th Street, NW Washington, DC 20036 (Planned Parenthood is one of the largest distributors of birth control in the country.)

WHY: “The birth control pill is not only killing preborn children and women, it is killing our environment,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life League, “How long will we stand by and ignore the fact that hormonal contraception wreaks havoc on our children, women’s health and the planet?”

The people behind this festival of the fetus is the nasty little group called “American Life League”
From Right Wing Watch:

American Life League
Founded by Judie and Paul Brown with help from right-wing strategist Paul Weyrich, the American Life League (ALL) is a spin-off from the National Right to Life Committee with a more grassroots orientation.
ALL is closely aligned with the Catholic Church and opposes birth control, stem cell research and euthanasia.
ALL was an enthusiastic backer of the extreme anti-abortion tactics promoted by Operation Rescue.

Membership: claims 300,000 members
Formerly known as: American Life Lobby
Board Members: Judie Brown; Scarlett Clark; Mildred F. Jefferson, M.D.; Robert Sassone, Esq.; and Phillippe Schepens, M.D.

To end all forms of abortion without any exceptions made for the health and life of the mother, rape or incest.
ALL’s work includes campaigns against the use of all contraceptives, lobbying for “abstinence-only education” and the elimination of sex education in public schools.
ALL also fights against euthanasia, fetal tissue and embryo research, and questions the use of vaccines, such as rubella, that are created from human tissue cells.
Brown has strongly criticized President George W. Bush for not supporting the Human Life Amendment and has chastised other conservative groups for giving him any support.
According to Judie Brown, “Abortion is never necessary to save a mother’s life.”
Organizes grassroots activists.
Lobbies on behalf of its issues.
Produces educational materials and publishes a weekly newsletter.
Participates in legal action.
ALL has its own voting mobilization project.
Sells anti-abortion clothing, jewelry, stickers, and brochures.
In 2004, ALL published a full-page advertisement in USA Today urging Catholic priests and bishops to deny Communion to Catholic legislators who support abortion rights.
ALL’s early networking created the foundation for the outspoken anti-abortion movement in the 1980s and the established movement as it exists now.
ALL helped to establish the “rescue” movement, which made the use of aggressive tactics to disrupt reproductive health services commonplace.
These tactics, adopted and popularized by ALL, include “sidewalk counseling,” clinic blockades, and the systematic harassing and intimidation of patients, clinics and doctors.
According to Brown these activities are “free speech” and in 1994 ALL filed charges over the Freedom of Access to Clinics Act (FACE) in American Life League v. Reno.
ALL lost in the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court refused to hear the case.
ALL defends anti-choice activists who have been arrested for blocking clinics and has applauded the controversial work of Operation Rescue and Randall Terry.
In 1996 when Bill Bennett and Ralph Reed questioned the GOP’s absolutist anti-abortion plank, Judie Brown gathered together 11 pro-life leaders including Family Research Council’s Gary Bauer and Focus on the Family’s James Dobson to express their strong support of the Human Life Amendment and collective rejection of any exceptions for abortion.
Judie Brown is allegedly a member of the clandestine right-wing organization Council for National Policy.
In 1979, Judie Brown broke from the National Right To Life Committee to form ALL.
Within less than a year of its founding, ALL had 68,000 members.
ALL received virtually free publicity from religious-right leader Paul Weyrich with the help of right-wing direct mail specialist Richard Viguerie’s massive membership lists.

The latest way ALL was “Celebrating Life” was a sign they sponsored and paid for to be distributed at the 9/12 TeaBagger march in DC this past September of 2009.

The sign “Bury Obama Care With Kennedy” Was paid for and distributed by The American Life League which proves the way they believe in “Celebrating Life”.

Faith2FAIL…The Movie LOL!!!!

Crazy Narcissist Theocrat Janet Porter at it AGAIN!

A while back we reported on one of the most embarrassingly bad failure of a political rally called “Faith2Action” which we dubbed “Faith2FAIL”.
The event was orchestrated by a self obsessed theocrat named Janet Porter who was granted a very large amount of $$$$$$’s ($70,000) to attract thousands to a Christian Dominionist based prayer event on May 1st 2010.

Part of her reasoning for choosing May 1st was to make a mockery of the pro-labor observed anniversary for the left.

But, the mockery was on her, as her event barely drew a few hundred crazies, a pro-labor/pro-immigration rights event on the same day only a few blocks away did draw tens of thousands of supporters and was a huge success.

The Monday following Porter’s fail, she was kicked of her radio spot from a Evangelical radio network, because she was too extreme and too much of a failure even for THEM!

Thus, with concern for her Christian Dominionist rhetoric and ties, it appears that Porter also lost her credibility… so what does she do to try to get it back?

Like a self absorbed teenager who cannot stop posting about herself on Facebook, Porter has now decided to try to make a movie and its all about HER!

Marketing this disaster with phony old “feel for the fetuses” blabber, the delusional Porter sees her teeny bopper hearts and flowers romance with her husband “Daniel Porter” as the center of the universe and will attract thousands of interested viewers to flock to her spotlight…once again….NOT!

Ken Cuccinelli And the White Supremacists In His Campaign

We here at the Lady Liberty’s Lamp Collective are surprised that this has not come in the Virginia campaign races before.
It appears that crazy Ken Cuccinelli has some very unsavory racist connections to his campaign by way of the Gun Owners of America’s founder “Larry Pratt”

Cuccinelli with his campaign spokesman the white supremacist Larry Pratt

It appears Larry Pratt has been a long time Cuccinelli supporter and advocate:

Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund E-Mail/FAX Alert
8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151
Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408

July 26, 2002
Dear Friend of the Second Amendment,
Believe it or not, the staunchest friend of the Second Amendment in
the Virginia state Senate could get into office in a special
election being held in a few days — August 6. And he will be a
Senator from Northern Virginia!

Ken Cuccinelli of Centreville pulled off an upset to win the
Republican primary in the 37th state Senate district.

Cuccinelli defeated the establishment candidate who was backed by
some of the worst anti-gun Republicans in the state.

Cuccinelli now faces the kind of candidate that only the members of
the so-called Million Moms could love — Cathy Belter. Belter is a
liberal librarian who is on the Fairfax County School Board.

Belter has boasted of her teacher union support. As you probably
know, the national and state teachers unions openly and militantly
support gun control.

I assure you that the virulently anti-self defense teachers unions
do not want Cuccinelli to win this special August 6 election.

Frankly, Gun Owners of America thinks that this election is just as
important as does the anti-gun Virginia Education Association
teachers union.

We have been able to pass pro-self defense legislation in the House
of Delegates only to see the legislation get killed in the Senate.
This is exactly what happened this year to the House-passed bill to
remove the ban on carrying a concealed firearm in restaurants that
serve alcoholic beverages.

The pro-Second Amendment forces are close to a majority in the
Senate. Cuccinelli’s victory would put us much closer to victory
there.
Another benefit of a Cuccinelli victory would be to put the lie to
the anti-gun mantra that a pro-Second Amendment candidate cannot be
elected in Northern Virginia.

Cuccinelli’s victory will tell pro-gun activists that they could
win, too — if they would just take the plunge and run for office.

Cuccinelli is running an excellent grassroots campaign. But even if
you do not live close enough to the 37th Senate district in Northern
Virginia, you can help with a contribution.

You can give as much as you want under Virginia law. Corporate
contributions are also OK in Virginia. A few $1,000 checks would
give a huge boost to the Cuccinelli campaign.

But even $25, $50 or $100 would help a lot.

Please send your check, today! You can send it to Cuccinelli for
Senate, 6801 Mount Olive Court, Centreville, VA 20121.

Online contributions can be made at:

https://www.campaigncontribution.com…?ano=2151&db=3

If there is any way you can volunteer — even if you have to drive
across the state the weekend before Election Day — please call the
campaign office at 703-766-0635. Or use Ken@cuccinelli.com to drop
Cuccinelli an e-mail message.

Cuccinelli has bucked the anti-self defense establishment in
Northern Virginia. Please take part in the effort to enable him to
buck the anti-gunners in Richmond.
Sincerely,
Larry Pratt
Executive Director

P.S. If you live in parts of Springfield, Burke or Fairfax Station,
or anywhere in Centreville or Chantilly, you are in Cuccinelli’s
37th Senate district. You can verify in which district you reside
by calling the information desk at a public library

More about Larry Pratt from the Southern Poverty Law Center

Larry Pratt

Larry Pratt, a gun rights absolutist whose Gun Owners of America (GOA) has been described as “eight lanes to the right” of the National Rifle Association, may well be the person who brought the concept of citizen militias to the radical right.

In 1990, Pratt wrote a book, Armed People Victorious, based on his study of “citizen defense patrols” used in Guatemala and the Philippines against Communist rebels — patrols that came to be known as death squads for their murderous brutality.

Picturing these groups in rosy terms, Pratt advocated similar militias in the United States — an idea that finally caught on when he was invited for a meeting of 160 extremists, including many famous white supremacists, in 1992.

It was at that meeting, hosted in Colorado by white supremacist minister Pete Peters, that the contours of the militia movement were laid out.

Pratt, whose GOA has grown since its 1975 founding to some 150,000 members today, hit the headlines in a big way when his associations with Peters and other professional racists were revealed, convincing arch-conservative Pat Buchanan to eject him as a national co-chair of Buchanan’s 1996 presidential campaign.

The same year, it emerged that Pratt was a contributing editor to a periodical of the anti-Semitic United Sovereigns of America, and that his GOA had donated money to a white supremacist attorney’s group.

Pratt is today close to the extremist Constitution Party and its radical theology.

Cuccinelli himself is no stranger to hate and bigotry in his latest homophobic remark to the Virginia Pilot:

“ My view is that homosexual acts, not homosexuality, but homosexual acts are wrong. They’re intrinsically wrong. And I think in a natural law based country it’s appropriate to have policies that reflect that. … They don’t comport with natural law. I happen to think that it represents (to put it politely; I need my thesaurus to be polite) behavior that is not healthy to an individual and in aggregate is not healthy to society.”

UPDATE!! Virginia political blogger Vivian Page also has a great article addressing Cuccinelli extremism here. A very good read!

Who Is Andrew Beacham?

The many faces of Andrew Beacham

The many faces of Andrew Beacham

Our friends at Teabagger Watch (nee Teabaggers Are Coming) have a great new piece about Andrew Beacham, the young teabagger acolyte of rabid anti-choice zealot Randall Terry. Beacham first came to our attention when he has been spotted him at various events sporting distinctly changed looks. In addition to getting arrested wherever Obama is speaking and making a fool of himself protesting Obama’s “do well in school” speech, Beacham’s hobbies also include infiltrating Planned Parenthood meetings and having sooper dooper top seekrit meetings with notable airhead Alan Keyes.

Muslim Day of Prayer Disrupted By “Operation Save America”

Muslim Day of Prayer on US Capitol Draws 50,000 People

Muslim Day of Prayer on US Capitol Draws 50,000 People

Washington DC- On September 25, 2009 it was a warm sunny Friday at the United States Capitol where the first Muslim Day of prayer was held on the west lawn. It was a a family friendly event with brightly clothed participants numbering about 50, 000 who all joined in a positive time of meditation and fellowship for a new future in the relationship between Muslims and America, the country they call home.

Beautiful cultural attire added to the warm mood of the Muslim Day of Prayer

Unfortunately, a certain loud and rude over zealous Christian cult calling itself “Operation Save America” was not only handing out horrible pamphlets, openly praying to scare people from their communal prayer event, but screaming racist anti-Muslim slurs in a megaphone during the silent meditations and sacred moments.

Operation Save America hands out pamphlets of hate and disrupts sacred Muslim meditations

Operation Save America hands out pamphlets of hate and disrupts sacred Muslim meditations

Their nasty little pamphlet reads : Abortion is Murder, Homosexuality is Sin and Islam is a Lie. Inside this handout they claim Jews have “religious hypocrisy” and the rest of the tripe is anti-Muslim racism and hate “through Christ”.

Mike Flugennock reports from DCIMC:

Christians Make Sorry-Ass Spectacle of Selves at National Muslim Day of
Prayer at the Capitol

JESUS FREAKS SHOUT, BABBLE AT MUSLIMS; FLING BIGOTED INSULTS, THREATS OF
DAMNATION AS PER USUAL

It had turned out to be quite a pleasant sunny afternoon when several
thousand Muslims gathered on the West Lawn of the Capitol in a peaceable
neighborly manner to pray and meditate on their National Day of Prayer
while, in the meantime, they were relentlessly hectored, harassed,
bullied and accosted by a gaggle of born-again Christian nutcakes in a
display of the kind of ignorance, arrogance, and stupidity that drove
this reporter to become an atheist, skeptic, and rationalist (in his
junior year of college, while hanging around the dorm on a Sunday
morning doing bong hits and watching the 700 Club for cheap laughs, upon
seeing Pat Robertson praying over a pile of letters containing checks
and cash mailed in to his phony-assed “ministry”).

As far back as this reporter – originally from a Catholic family – can
remember, the only religion whose members hounded him to join their
“flock” and threatened him with eternal hellfire and torment if he
didn’t believe as they believed were the Christians. No Jew or Muslim or
Hindu or Buddhist or Shinto ever subjected this reporter to the kind of
pushy, crass bullying that he’s had to put up with most of his life from
Christians of the kind he witnessed pestering the Muslims who came to
the Capitol to pray this afternoon.
