Transparency Terrifies David Horowitz

My, it’s been awhile, hasn’t it? Don’t worry, gentle readers– we haven’t gone anywhere.

Horowitz is infamous for screaming for freedom to hate but cries like a baby when others exercise their freedom to expose him

We subscribe to a heck of a lot of email listservs, and among them JihadWatch and the David Horowitz Freedom Center are among our most prolific subscriptions. Every day, we’re treated to a landslide of the most paranoid and ridiculous delusions about the coming floodtide of fifth-column Muslim ninja insurgent terrorists, walking amongst us– unseen!

On August 26, 2011, Center for American Progress released a large and comprehensive report entitled Fear, Inc.The Roots of the Islamophobia Network in America, which details the funding and propagation of Islamophobic rhetoric in the United States.

This report (which can be viewed in its entirety here) does little more than report publicly available information about who funds organizations like Jihadwatch and figures like David Horowitz and Pam Geller, then goes to on to document the tangible effects this sort of rhetoric has on society.

The existence of such a report in the wake of Anders Behring Breivik’s mass slaughter in Norway is timely and necessary, and the exercise of bringing transparency to shady matters is the epitome of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. That Breivik was a fan (if not a pen-pal) of Geller’s makes his inclusion in this report all the more salient.

This report therefore directly threatens the careers of the members of the cloyingly titled “Stop Islamisation of America” movement.

Naturally, the content of the emails changed to apoplectic fits about how the “Islamic Supremacist Propaganda Machine” is silencing critics of Islam and is waging a war against freedom of speech.

David Horowitz and Robert Spencer seized this opportunity to needle their audience for hard cash– claiming the best way to defend freedom of speech was to send them as much money as you possibly could.

Here is one of Horowitz’s begging and BAWWWWing e-mails:

BEG AND BAWWWW AND BEG AND BAWWWW!

Your reward for throwing your money away on this “heroic act of patriotic freedom-fighting?” A copy of David Horowitz’s latest book. ( OH JOY!) Freedom isn’t free, you know.

The Center for American Progress report is obviously not an assault on freedom of speech. This is more apparent when it is compared with the actions of the groups it exposes– who routinely demonize and scapegoat all members of a religion as dangerous and duplicitous savages. Does applauding people who commit mass murder as a valid form of “combat” against said religion count as “defending freedom of speech?” Only in the mind of the murderer.

The only real difference between blindly ranting that all opposition to “pro-America” activists is funded by an Islamic conspiracy or a Jewish conspiracy is the site on which it’s published. If we were to simply change “Muslim” to “Jew” in your screeds, it would be indistinguishable from the anti-Semitic bile that is pumped out of Stormfront or VNN; sorry, Mr.Horowitz– that makes you a racist.

MORE TRANSPARENCY ON WHO IS FUNDING RACIST POLITICAL GROUPS

Excellent work from our friends at the "Center for a New Community"

Another impressive report on transparency, issued on August 30, 2011, was produced by Center for New Community– in which it details the organizational and financial structure of the anti-immigration movement in the US. As it turns out– and as we have reported in the past– all of the major anti-immigration organizations in the US have been founded by, receive funding from or are otherwise associated with a man with white supremacist ties named John Tanton.

It is also worthy to note that the Scaife Foundations that supply Tanton with money are related by blood to the same Richard Mellon Scaife that funds a bulk of the anti-Muslim bigotry in this country and are also mentioned in the above Center for American Progress report.

Oh, what a tangled web.

The FBI Attempts to Intimidate the Internet!

The FBI served 40 people with search warrants and seized electronic devices as their conducted a blatant intimidation campaign against internet free-speech activists. Raw Story has the story here, but we have an update.

From AnonX:

FBI had a warrant to take all my electronics. They came in the dorm room bustin in @ 7:00, and pushed everyone out of bed. They searched the place and questioned all people involved.
I was a passive admin for Operation Payback, and quit early to avoid complications with the law, but it seems the FBI has gotten the better of me.
Questions shall be answered whenever I have time, and when I find a public computer to use as they seized all my electronic assets.
UNCENSORED WARRANT: http://i.imgur.com/4o8IC.jpg
TL;DR: FBI took all my stuff and questioned me about OP
Also, AMA.

No, this is not a hoax. Among those questioned were at least three current IRC operators– who all had their personal items and electronics seized.

Roderick F. Coffin III is the point-of-contact g-man behind the raid in Georgia, who– as this business card shows—

works at 2635 Century Pkwy NE, Suite 400, Atlanta, GA 30345,
can be emailed at roderick.coffin@ic.fbi.gov,

OpEgypt is a Success!!

As a parallel action to the mass protests and revolution in Egypt the internet hive Anonymous has been doing DDoS attacks on the Egyptian government websites..

From the We Are Khaled Saeed group, that we translated from Arabic:

This is a tragic story about a young man who was brutally murdered. Why? He refused to be treated inhumanly by two savage cops who had no right to do what they were doing– treating people like sheep and considering the citizens inferior.
The story began on 7th June 2010 when Khaled Saeed went to his usual Internet cafe in Sidigaber. Then two wild detective cops- Mahmoud Alfallah and Awaad Elmokhber- ambushed that cafe asking people for their IDs which is totally out of their authority and without legal permission. Khaled rejected that inhumane treatment and consequently was viciously attacked. He was kicked in his chest and belly severely while his skull was smashed against the marble bar in front of all of the people in the cafe while Khaled was bleeding. The savage cops then abducted Khaled and put him inside a police vehicle to continue torturing him at the police station where he later died. They threw his corpse into the street to claim that he was attacked by some strangers in order to avoid responsibility.

According to what we know, there’s a systematic campaign to terrify the witnesses and prevent them from testifying to what they saw in the cafe….

Khaled is not and won’t be the only case, there are lots of people who had the same fate and disappeared and became dead on arrival. All of this is a result of the oppressive system under which Mubarak controls Egypt. This emergency law gives the police the upper hand to treat the residents as slaves.

Thus, we the group of Change In Egypt supporters urge you to intervene and force the authorities to investigate and explain to the public what happened and to condemn it strongly.

Security and Connectivity update:

For all Egyptians: Twitter is closed as you know, Facebook will reportedly close very soon. Please All use proxies and tell ALL your friends in Egypt to use proxy to connect. For example use: http://www.free-proxy.ca

The Telecomix IRC is interested in assisting Egyptians circumvent country-level censorship blocks, and they are posting live, on-the-street updates of the situation in Egypt.. Also, the censors at TE Data failed to block 128.121.243.237 and 168.143.161.29 for Twitter. You can use those without a proxy directly.

THE PROTESTS IN THE STREETS FROM THE PEOPLE

In Algeria; Protests in the streets!!!

THE PRESS RELEASE

21/01/2011 CITIZENS OF THE WORLD FREE-THINKERS,

The Algerian government imposes on its own citizens intolerable
restrictions on fundamental freedoms. The Algerian government wants to
create a future where injustices go unpunished and where exploitation
of man by another remain unpunished. The Algerian government is hiding
the truth to its citizens and denies them access to freedom of
expression and information. Call for an end to censorship. Today is a
day of freedom and transparency, a time when people can finally
express themselves freely and be heard around the globe. How a society
could prosper and grow it if its citizens are not well informed? By
his actions, the Algerian government says the enemy of Anonymous and
the people. Anonymous hears appeals to the Freedom of the Algerian
people and decided to act. We can not and will not be silent until
these injustices continue to be perpetrated.

Anonymous will help the people in their struggle against oppression.
We believe the Algerian attempt doomed to failure if none of us takes
responsibility: that is why we the people have decided to act.
Algerian Government: Your restrictions on freedom of expression and
your denial of information to your citizens are in direct violation of
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and can no longer be
tolerated. Anonymous attacks all those involved in censorship.
Anonymous will not do that acting; Anonymous will also ensure that the
international media watch face the horrible reality that you impose on
your people. The Algerian government has the power to stop this;
repression continue and you will be subject to mob justice – listen
carefully to the hope of freedom to your people and hostilities cease.

The Algerian people: We stand together and united against this
oppression. This fight is not only your fight, but of all mankind.
Citizens are calmer and can not be simply connected and crushed into
submission. When we are cornered by the threat of oppression, we can
be as strong as hell – and when the people’s voice rises, it will
provide thrills and chills to anyone who wants to stifle our freedom
and our delete precious rights. Anonymous what are your brothers and
your sisters, your son and your daughters, your parents and friends,
regardless of age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity or place of
birth.

You are Anonymous. You will not see denied your freedom of speech,
press, free association and your right to universal access to full
information, whether in real life or on the Internet. Join us in the
battle for freedom of information worldwide! For, as Edmund Burke
said: “The only condition for the triumph of evil is for good men
doing nothing.” We are Anonymous. We are legion. We do not forget. We
do not forgive. Expect us.

THE STATE OF BRADLEY MANNING; WE HAVE ID’D HIS JAIL ABUSER!!!

A few posts back, we reported on a protest at the Quantico Marine Base where Manning is being held as a political prisoner.

Despite the failed attempts by the protesters to try to reach, contact and deliver a care package to Manning, hopes were that he was well. The fears are that he is being tortured by the biased and nationalist anti-freedom military who are keeping him there.

All of those fears have been confirmed in this report:

The Taiwan Times

WikiLeaks GI’s complaint targets his Marine jailer
Associated Press
2011-01-21 11:03 PM

The lawyer for a soldier suspected of passing classified information to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks is alleging wrongdoing by a military jailer.

David Coombs said Friday he has filed a complaint under military law with the commander of the Marine Corps base where Army Pfc. Bradley Manning is being held in Quantico, Virginia.

The lawyer said in a posting on his blog that Navy Chief Warrant Officer 4 James Averhart abused his discretion by placing Manning on 24-hour suicide watch from Tuesday evening to Thursday afternoon contrary to the recommendation of the military jail’s own psychiatrist.

Manning has been confined at least 23 hours day for nearly six months. His lawyer wants Manning’s maximum-security status changed to medium-security.

We found a photo of Marine Chief Warrant Officer 4 James T Averhart:

TARGET: Venezuela IS DOWN!!!

WHY????????????????
From the BBC News:

Venezuelan parliament votes to tighten internet rules

The parliament in Venezuela has approved a law which will tighten the rules regulating internet content.
Under the bill, online messages inciting hatred, or political and religious intolerance, are banned.
The new law also prohibits contents which is deemed to disrespect public officials.
Opposition politicians voted against the measure, which they say is a threat to freedom of speech.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says it will help protect citizens against online crimes.
Under the new rules, providers of online contents and internet portals could be fined if images or messages appearing on their sites “disrespect public authorities, incite or promote hatred or create anxiety in the citizenry or alter public order”.
President Chavez says the law will shield citizens from messages promoting drug use, prostitution and other crimes.
‘Fighting cybercrime’
“We aren’t eliminating the internet here, or censoring it,” he said during his weekly television and radio broadcast on Sunday.
“What we’re doing is protecting ourselves against crimes, against cybercrimes,” he added.
The Venezuelan Chamber of Electronic Commerce has criticised the measure saying that it is another step on the way to censorship and the blocking of websites.
Opposition politicians accuse President Chavez of passing a raft of restrictive laws before January, when a new parliament with more opposition delegates is sworn in.
The measure was passed just days after parliament voted to give President Chavez special powers to pass laws by decree for 18 months.

Well then…..

A message to Civil Society on Venezuela (en)

“I swear by the God of my fathers, I swear by my country, I swear by my honor, that i will not give comfort to my soul, no rest to my arm, until i cant see the broken chains that oppress my people through the will of the powerful” Simón Bolívar.

Power is a monster of a thousand faces; as many faces as there are dictatorial regimes and sinister corporations in the world. Anonymous does not take in consideration the political symbol that lies beneath those masks, it doesnt take into consideration precise ideologies, nor pre-established dogmas. Anonymous thinks in as many ways as the people who comprise it.

Freedom of expression consists precisely in that, in allowing every voice from every person to be heard in the public life. The Venezuelan governement is trying to impose censorship on the net using the “Ley del Resorte”. The second article of that law is a gateway to censor every divergent opinion. Even if we disagree with the opinions of certain media, we can’t gag them, for this would go precisely against what we defend.

That is why we start this virtual protest, to make the world understand that we are not willing to tolerate any reduction in freedom of expression, no matter whose freedom is attacked. Anonymous is here to ensure the net neutrality, and the freedom of expression of it’s people, and Anonymous people, are the citizens of the Net.

That’s why we want all civil society to realize our concerns on Venezuela. That’s why we protest. Wherever censorship is hiding, you will find us fighting.

We do not forget.
We do not forgive.
Expect us.

Wikileaks is the word!

On January 17, 2011, in Triangle Virginia protesters rallied at the main gate of Quantico Marine Corps base to demand the release of Bradley Manning, who has been held in solitary confinement for seven months following his May 27th arrest for his alleged involvement in the Wikileaks fiasco. Activists blocked half of the main road into the base and attempted to deliver a care package to Manning, which was denied by the base guards. Manning is charged with passing confidential information to Wikileaks, but he has yet to be tried or sentenced.

Open letter to the Department of Justice

This is posted on the very good site AnonOps Communications

It is in reference to the insane subpenus (subpoena) issued by the Department of Justice by going after internet users who “tweet” wikileaks instead of paying attention to right wing terrorists who are actually openly harming and murdering the public

UPDATE!! GREAT LETTER BY BLOGGER OKKE ORNSTEIN

From AnonOp Communications

Open letter to the Department of Justice
To Whom It May Concern

We are regretful of your actions to attempt to retrieve information from Twitter about the account belonging to “Wikileaks”, as by doing so you are attempting to remove the anonymity of the poster and by extension, their right to speech. We are confused as to why you have brought such a subpoena against Twitter, as there is little information you will gain from these details, leaving comments and observations on the world are to our understanding; not a criminal offence

Is this not the same type of action that you, DOJ, find reprehensible in other countries? How do you justify the same action in the US? No crime has been committed yet you assume that the populace at large will just “roll over” as always and allow this intrusion.

The time has come for the people of the world to take an active part in governing their own lives and freedoms. The world must become aware that its freedoms are in jeopardy. Today, Twitter, tomorrow, what? Recent events have shown that people are becoming tired of being treated this way. Why push an unwinnable confrontation when working for the same goal is always more productive (learn from history).

The US Government expressed concern over the Tunisian Government’s actions when they attacked protesters’ Facebook accounts. Is there a difference here? They attack and you use the “law” (loosely defined) to in essence do the same thing. What’s the possible difference? Your motives are the same.

Yours Faithfully
