Report Back from #OccupyDC and Stop the Machine

#OccupyDC March on October 8, 2011

The Occupy Movement started in New York City on September 17, 2011. Who started this movement has been up for debate, but the documentation claims it was started by the publication Adbusters. Anyone interested in the recorded timeline can find it on Wikipedia.

There is a plethora of media coverage of these inspiring protests with entertaining and frustrating stories of police, private owners of parks and piles and piles of pizza.

The Occupy movement has been expanding and flourishing and this past Thursday it came to our nation’s capital.

Mike Flugennock attended this occupying kickoff on Freedom Plaza in Washington DC and created a video, and with plenty of “Nyan”

Today, Saturday October 6th, 2011, there was a little more action at hand. In an attempt to stage a protest at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum protestors were pepper sprayed.

Rest assured, the pepper spray incident at the museum was about the only spark of drama, besides a march around the block and some speeches and songs on Freedom Plaza and McPherson Square.

The day was pleasant, positive and full of social connections.

Here are a few photos from the Liberty Lamp of the day.
