Ken Cuccinelli And the White Supremacists In His Campaign

We here at the Lady Liberty’s Lamp Collective are surprised that this has not come in the Virginia campaign races before.
It appears that crazy Ken Cuccinelli has some very unsavory racist connections to his campaign by way of the Gun Owners of America’s founder “Larry Pratt”

Cuccinelli with his campaign spokesman the white supremacist Larry Pratt

It appears Larry Pratt has been a long time Cuccinelli supporter and advocate:

July 26, 2002
Dear Friend of the Second Amendment,
Believe it or not, the staunchest friend of the Second Amendment in
the Virginia state Senate could get into office in a special
election being held in a few days — August 6. And he will be a
Senator from Northern Virginia!

Ken Cuccinelli of Centreville pulled off an upset to win the
Republican primary in the 37th state Senate district.

Cuccinelli defeated the establishment candidate who was backed by
some of the worst anti-gun Republicans in the state.

Cuccinelli now faces the kind of candidate that only the members of
the so-called Million Moms could love — Cathy Belter. Belter is a
liberal librarian who is on the Fairfax County School Board.

Belter has boasted of her teacher union support. As you probably
know, the national and state teachers unions openly and militantly
support gun control.

I assure you that the virulently anti-self defense teachers unions
do not want Cuccinelli to win this special August 6 election.

Frankly, Gun Owners of America thinks that this election is just as
important as does the anti-gun Virginia Education Association
teachers union.

We have been able to pass pro-self defense legislation in the House
of Delegates only to see the legislation get killed in the Senate.
This is exactly what happened this year to the House-passed bill to
remove the ban on carrying a concealed firearm in restaurants that
serve alcoholic beverages.

The pro-Second Amendment forces are close to a majority in the
Senate. Cuccinelli’s victory would put us much closer to victory
there.
Another benefit of a Cuccinelli victory would be to put the lie to
the anti-gun mantra that a pro-Second Amendment candidate cannot be
elected in Northern Virginia.

Cuccinelli’s victory will tell pro-gun activists that they could
win, too — if they would just take the plunge and run for office.

Cuccinelli is running an excellent grassroots campaign. But even if
you do not live close enough to the 37th Senate district in Northern
Virginia, you can help with a contribution.

You can give as much as you want under Virginia law. Corporate
contributions are also OK in Virginia. A few $1,000 checks would
give a huge boost to the Cuccinelli campaign.

But even $25, $50 or $100 would help a lot.

Please send your check, today! You can send it to Cuccinelli for
Senate, 6801 Mount Olive Court, Centreville, VA 20121.

Online contributions can be made at:

If there is any way you can volunteer — even if you have to drive
across the state the weekend before Election Day — please call the
campaign office at 703-766-0635. Or use Ken@cuccinelli.com to drop
Cuccinelli an e-mail message.

Cuccinelli has bucked the anti-self defense establishment in
Northern Virginia. Please take part in the effort to enable him to
buck the anti-gunners in Richmond.
Sincerely,
Larry Pratt
Executive Director

P.S. If you live in parts of Springfield, Burke or Fairfax Station,
or anywhere in Centreville or Chantilly, you are in Cuccinelli’s
37th Senate district. You can verify in which district you reside
by calling the information desk at a public library

More about Larry Pratt from the Southern Poverty Law Center

Larry Pratt

Larry Pratt, a gun rights absolutist whose Gun Owners of America (GOA) has been described as “eight lanes to the right” of the National Rifle Association, may well be the person who brought the concept of citizen militias to the radical right.

In 1990, Pratt wrote a book, Armed People Victorious, based on his study of “citizen defense patrols” used in Guatemala and the Philippines against Communist rebels — patrols that came to be known as death squads for their murderous brutality.

Picturing these groups in rosy terms, Pratt advocated similar militias in the United States — an idea that finally caught on when he was invited for a meeting of 160 extremists, including many famous white supremacists, in 1992.

It was at that meeting, hosted in Colorado by white supremacist minister Pete Peters, that the contours of the militia movement were laid out.

Pratt, whose GOA has grown since its 1975 founding to some 150,000 members today, hit the headlines in a big way when his associations with Peters and other professional racists were revealed, convincing arch-conservative Pat Buchanan to eject him as a national co-chair of Buchanan’s 1996 presidential campaign.

The same year, it emerged that Pratt was a contributing editor to a periodical of the anti-Semitic United Sovereigns of America, and that his GOA had donated money to a white supremacist attorney’s group.

Pratt is today close to the extremist Constitution Party and its radical theology.

Cuccinelli himself is no stranger to hate and bigotry in his latest homophobic remark to the Virginia Pilot:

“ My view is that homosexual acts, not homosexuality, but homosexual acts are wrong. They’re intrinsically wrong. And I think in a natural law based country it’s appropriate to have policies that reflect that. … They don’t comport with natural law. I happen to think that it represents (to put it politely; I need my thesaurus to be polite) behavior that is not healthy to an individual and in aggregate is not healthy to society.”

UPDATE!! Virginia political blogger Vivian Page also has a great article addressing Cuccinelli extremism here. A very good read!

WARNING! International Fascism On the Rise!

WARNING: Fascism On The Rise!

WARNING: Fascism On The Rise!

Back in June of this year, we covered a story about Nick Griffin the British Nationalist/Nazi Party elected official to the European Parliament and his connection in organizing with other European right wing Nationalist/Fascist political parties.

It was really only about four-five months ago, and nobody knew whether to take it seriously or not.

Well, it looks like the trend of “Nationalist Parties” has hit a growths-pert. .

From The Taiwan News:

Five European nationalist parties are forming an alliance in opposition to the European Union and globalization, officials said Saturday.
Hungary’s Jobbik, France’s National Front, Italy’s Three-Color Flame, Sweden’s National Democrats and Belgium’s National Front formed the Alliance of European National Movements, saying the British National Party, Austria’s Freedom Party as well as groups from Spain and Portugal would join them soon.

Far-right parties won a surprisingly large number of seats in June’s European parliamentary elections. Jobbik got three seats and nearly 15 percent of the vote in Hungary, while the British National Party won two seats and 6 percent of the vote.

Nationalist parties are usually opposed to immigration and increased rights for homosexuals, say globalization will homogenize independent cultures and don’t want supranational bodies like the European Union to limit the rights of individual countries.

“This is an important step … for the renaissance of sovereign nations,” Marc Abramsson, president of Sweden’s National Democrats, said about the alliance. “It is a struggle for our own culture and heritage.”

Ummm… “opposed to immigration and increased rights for homosexuals”?

Sounds like our very own Tea Bagging hate movement who are furious with the fact that there is a black president, and who also hate immigrants and want to control who can marry who.

Are we looking at an international trend of a growing reactionary movement based in intolerance and Fascism which also has a connection to our own American soil?

Anti-Muslim Fascist Dutch Politician Geert Wilders Makes USA Speaking Tour

As of late, the Fascist Nationalist Dutch politician Geert Wilders, known for his hatred against Muslims, has been making a United States speaking tour to various colleges hosted by the racist David Horowitz
From One People’s Project:

Students and community members came out to protest the appearance of Geert Wilders, who has been making a name for himself as an anti-Islamist politician in the Netherlands, and Frontpagemag.org’s David Horowitz, who has had a decades-long career of promoting hatred against Muslims and people of color, often using college campuses as the vehicle for such promotions.

Historically, Europe has suffered greatly under Fascism, hence why our British anti-fascist comrades will risk themselves to fight against every move of the British Nationalist/Nazi Party, as will our other European comrades.
We must join them in this battle and unite internationally to be stronger than the evil that is starting to infest our planet.

Protest Call! Against “Illinois’s #1 Hater of Gays”

Gay Liberation Network (GLN) has called for a protest against what it calls “Illinois’s #1 Hater of Gays”!
At 6:30 PM this Saturday night, October 24th!
Peter LaBarbera, the man behind Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, is having his annual benefit and protesters will gather outside the Christian Liberty Academy, 502 W. Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL to express their First Amendment-based opposition.

Peter LaBarbera

Peter LaBarbera

GLN notes that Peter LaBarbera not only opposes equal rights for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender people (LGBT), but has spent literally decades fighting against equal rights:

– as a former reporter for the right-wing “Mooney” paper The Washington Times of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon cult

– as an operative with Concerned Women for America, a group dedicated to opposing equal rights for women

– as Executive Director of the Illinois Family Institute, an outfit which was at one time labeled a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center

– as one of the few, core supporters of multiple campaigns by far-right politician Jim Oberweis, whose campaigns were widely viewed as scapegoating Latino immigrants

– as one of the few, core supporters of the U.S. Senate campaign of Alan Keyes, a campaign that was so unhinged in its far-right rhetoric that future President Barack Obama rode to a record 70%+ victory to win the seat

– and now with his Americans for Truth About Homosexuality.

“With his breathless ‘undercover’ reports about Chicago’s International Mr. Leather and other events, LaBarbera’s obsession about gay sex has become legendary in political circles,” said GLN’s Andy Thayer. “His ‘activism’ would be laughable if it wasn’t also dangerous — LaBarbera was the principal proponent of the two failed attempts to get anti-gay initiatives on the Illinois ballot.”

GLN notes that LaBarbera has not only served as front-man for a series of far-right causes, his own statements have matched:

*** Appearing last year on the far-right Matt Barber program with luny-right legislator Rep. Sally “homosexuals are worse than terrorism” Kern of Oklahoma, he said that the gay lobby “threatens America and threatens children.”

*** Addressing the increasing pogromist atmosphere against LGBT people in Uganda, he said “At AFTAH, we preach Christian mercy and have denounced Talibanesque capital punishment for homosexuals in countries like Iran. But we also believe that if states and localities here in America (and governments abroad) wish to ban sodomy, they have every right to do so…” So Talibanesque laws are apparently okay, it’s just the punishment that is considered a bit extreme.

*** Talking about John Berry, the head of the federal government’s Office of Personnel Management, he said “So, what we have is sort of a subversive — if you could call it that — homosexual activist, and now he’s going to have an even much more visible and powerful role at OPM, which is a very powerful job in Washington.”

The Gay Liberation Network (www.GayLiberation.net) is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to winning equal rights and liberation for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgendered people through street protests and other direct involvement in social and political issues.

Granted, it wasn’t exactly a “perfect storm”, but it was a pretty good storm, well worth the price of admission if only for the satisfaction of seeing a gang of cops being faced down by some people picketing on a public sidewalk who actually had a frickin’ permit, f’cripesake.

A diverse range of opinions were on hand outside the Convention Center Saturday evening on the occasion of the Human Rights (a.k.a. “Human Whites”) Campaign’s annual banquet, which this year featured as its headline speaker US President and Nobel Idol Winner Barack Obama, a leader with a record of zero campaign promises kept so far for gay/lesbian/bi/trans citizens.

“Operation Rescue” founder and domestic terrorist Randall Terry was there with the usual posse, but without the usual over-the-top street theater, only Randall himself giving us what can only be described as a rant that was “phoned in” compared to the God Hates Fags-type characters who taunted and insulted picketers with far more conviction and gusto further down the sidewalk from him.
