Oh look…the confederacy isn’t racist … all those slaves forced to do manual labor during the war were “supporting” the south…yeah…ok then….

They say if you don’t succeed, try, try again.
Apparently John Stauffer thinks so, because today on The Root he offered a slightly different (and somewhat better developed) essay sharing his perspective on Black Confederates.
Stauffer’s strained effort to construct a strawman of scholarly controversy in order to frame his contribution would be understandable if it came from someone of lesser talent, but I think we are entitled to expect more from him.

To welcome in 2015, the Anti-Fascist Network has put together an idiots’ guide to the idiots on Britain’s far right. No need to thank us, it’s a public service.
British National Party
Formerly known as Britain’s most successful and ambitious fascist group since the 1930s, recent years have not been kind to the BNP. Membership and electoral support for the party has plummeted after a disappointing performance in the 2010 local and general elections. This unleashed a series of bitter internal disputes culminating in longstanding party leader Nick Griffin being unceremoniously booted out during 2014.
Alongside Griffin, most prominent party members who were at least semi-competent and kept the show on the road have either resigned or been expelled. This has left the BNP bereft of people with the kind of basic skills necessary to do…

Kristen is a friend to One People’s Project and someone who has fought against the impositions and xenophobia of the racist Neo-Confederate movement, mainly the Virginia Flaggers.
She is the mother of autistic children and a cancer survivor and still suffers from RA who receives chemotherapy treatments on a regular bases.
David Tantum, a Virginia rent-a-cop and confederate fetishist has decided to target Kristen because she doesn’t agree with his “Birth of a Nation” ideals.
Here is Kristen’s response to him…

Mr. David Tatum blogs about ‘things’ ~ one of those things being about individuals of whom he knows nothing about, and refuses to “approve” any posts from the individual, who he is writing about, to be put on his ‘thought page’.
In Mr. Tatum’s latest attempt to spread unrest, he targets myself, a female artist, who is going through chemotherapy, is married, and has two young children. Mr. Tatum targets individuals who do not agree with his dogmas about how life should be.
Interestingly enough, Mr. Tatum posted my GoFundMe account. I have a GoFundMe account because we are currently facing financial difficulties due to my ongoing chemotherapy treatments (http://www.gofundme.com/RAchemoKristen).
Having tried three times to “thank” Mr. David Tatum, Jr. for sharing my RA Chemotherapy Fund, Mr. Tatum will not ‘approve’ my ‘thank you’ on his ‘thoughts blog’… because it is well-written and polite. Mr. Tatum seems only to be…

Next Friday Susan Hathaway and the Virginia Flaggers will travel to Lexington, Virginia, where they will protests decisions made by the city of Lexington and Washington and Lee University concerning the display of the Confederate flag. Nothing new there. However, recent information shared with Crossroads merits attention apart from the usual weekly roundup of Confederate heritage activities and once more raises serious questions about the company Hathaway and the Flaggers keep in their efforts to “promote” Confederate heritage.
At first glance First Freedom.Net strikes one as your usual white supremacist/nationalist site. It is only when one examines The First Freedom’s monthly newsletter that we discover something that should trouble people who claim that Crossroads has been unfair to Susan Hathaway and the Virginia Flaggers. Take the July 2014 issue, downloadable here. The newsletter’s motto? “Inviting the Zionist controlled media′cracy to meet a rising Free South.” Well, that’s a…

The Virginia Flaggers recently put out a post about their Lee-Jackson Day event later this month. After reading it, I can say that this is coded racism throughout their post along with their own double standards. You can read the original Facebook post here.
The post begins with the line, “Washington & Lee Chapel Desecration,” which is contradicted in the next paragraph with the admission that they are upset with the removal of Confederate flags from Lee’s Chapel that were placed in 1930, a whole 60 years after his death. The case for desecration can be made for the people who later added Confederate flags. If anything the university returned the decoration of the Chapel to it’s condition of during the 1870’s until 1930.
The next paragraph refers to the 6 students who petitioned the school as “minorities.” All of these students are black Americans but they are also all law students…
