UnMasking the March

photo copy

We have written up quite a bit on Anonymous in the past, but not so much as of late because the Internet hive-mind has been on a bit of a hiatus (aside from DOXing the KKK and some murderous cops). This hasn’t stopped others, however, from co-copting the name and images of the internet hacker group to use for their own propaganda and political agendas. You remember Jamie Jo Corne from years back— well, there is a new co-opter in town and she is like a Sarah Palin of activism.

Christine Ann Sands

Christine Ann Sands

Recently, there was a march in Washington DC called the “Million Mask March” which was promoted as an “Anonymous” event. But how “Anonymous” was it? The woman behind the event is Christine Ann Sands, who gives out her info as:

We encountered Ms. Sands (or WhateverTheFuckHerNameis) while covering the crazy right-wing tea party event “Operation American Spring” (another clusterfuck of lunacy). She was trailing behind their meager march and homed in on any press like a heat seeking missile. Seriously, the most dangerous place in Washington is between Christine and a camera. We didn’t pay her any mind as we found her incredibly annoying and self-absorbed. We did a bit of research on her claims of activist fame and chose to ignore her– it’s the most effective technique to deal with people who thrive off unwarranted self importance.

Although Wonkette did give her some less than complimentary face time, she vanished into obscurity until she popped up when amateur leftist media sources were paying attention to the Million Mask March event in November of this year.

Digging into who this person is, she is obviously not really an Internet hacktivist at all– she is merely someone who has done several strange jobs in the past.

Oh how Mavericky!

Oh how Mavericky!

Her “internet activism” consists of trying to register as many URLs for other protest movements, like the OccupyDC protest, so she’s a glorified domain squatter.

We located a very interesting and pretty well researched pastebin on Ms Sands (or is it Mrs. Wahab?)

There are many accusations that this woman is a fed– and we are not ruling that out– but we are not going there yet

She does appear to be pretty well funded without any visible means of support ( she has a fancy painted up bus!) and even though her lunacy could very well be a ruse, she is apparently so flakey one would question if even the FBI would stoop to employ somebody this unhinged. She posted this long rant on her FB page:

Is there enough crazy here?

Is there enough crazy here?

Is she trying so hard to play a role that she is overdoing it? On the other hand… damn, this woman has some serious issues with reality.

Why is Russian Government TV involved?

Why is Kremlin TV involved?

Digging further, we also noticed that the Kremlin-funded Russia Today was also promoting this event. We are not the only ones who noticed this, as right wing blogger right wing blogger Kevin Tracy points out. Unfortunately, Tracy’s article is not accurate. He fails to expose who is really behind this event, claiming it was put together by actual Anonymous hackivists when it was not. He also fails to mention when Russia Today violated campaign finance laws to give the similarly unhinged Adam Kokesh airtime to use to raise money for the Ron Paul campaign.
Getting back to Ms Sands, she herself has been the doyenne of Russian government media quite few times.
Like Adam Kokesh, besides trying to co-opt Anonymous and the Occupy Movement (as both have tried to do) both were also involved with the right wing racist Ron Paul.

Christine has some opposition as well. The fellows we found who have the biggest beef with her are a chap named John Fairhurst and his comrades from Anti-Media who claim to be the original organizers of the march. We would feel a bit better about the march if they weren’t also Ron Paul supporters, but they are, in fact Fairhurst even asks Paul to come as speak at the Million Mask March on facebook thread.

Other Million March Organizers show an unsettling connection to rightwing/racist Ron Paul

Other Million March Organizers show an unsettling connection to rightwing/racist Ron Paul

There has been a long simmering movement coming from the third-position right wing to try to co-opt and manipulate leftist movements. Ms. Sands is part of that third position/Ron Paul/ pro-military revolutionary crowd who is trying to mislead disenchanted leftists into supporting something nefariously masked that they would normally be opposed to.

Screen shot 2014-11-15 at 1.57.58 PM

We also speculate that she is connected to Charles Kacprowicz– he of the extreme right-wing pro-military extremist movement Operation American Spring. She has promoted information of his event on her facebook page.

Screen shot 2014-11-15 at 2.02.40 PM

A word of caution for all leftists and anti-fascist activists: just because something looks revolutionary, it does not mean their goals are your goals. Ms. Sand is a right-winger and a conspiracy quack; she is tied in with pro-militia groups, Ron Paul and the right wing racist Russian government’s propaganda machine. The parallels between her and Adam Kokesh are almost identical.

A word for leftist amateur media- do your homework! Don’t be an unwitting propaganda tool!

Supporting this kind of façade is political suicide.

Georgia Christian School Says NO to White Power and Boots Marshall Rawson Out.

Rawson6

Once again, we have Marshall Rawson as a person of interest. It looks like Rawson’s extracurricular activities with the League of the South didn’t mesh very with the school he was attending; Shorter University’s vision– or rules, for that matter.

At this point in time, we are not sure exactly what went down. What we do know is that Rawson was very involved with the school’s Ron Paul-sponsored Young Americans for Liberty group, which appears to be the college youth wing of Campaign for Liberty. Out of that group appeared another odd youth group tied to the school called “Empower The Youth/Leadership Now
RawsonEmpowerment1
This group looks like a tool for the Hunt for Governor campaign, and one of their events was a gun giveaway via a raffle to raise money. With school shootings making the recent headlines, this looked like a bad plan from the start.

Advertising for a gun give away as a school activity?

Advertising for a gun give away as a school activity?

Now, in a post on the “Empower The Youth/Leadership Now” Facebook page:
Rawsonmpowered3How much of this is related to the school group’s gun raffle is unknown but there was another comment on the timeline of another Shorter University student:

Rawson

Even though Shorter is a very conservative university and a religious one, they also take a great deal of pride in their diverse student body; a good portion of the students who go there are African American and Hispanic. Having a student who is involved in a white supremacist nationalist group like League of the South is probably a big concern for the college. Throwing firearms into the mix is a recipe for trouble. We commend Shorter University for their good call and judgement in this case.

Video: Noam Chomsky thinks your 9/11 conspiracy theories are stupid. We agree!

Every so often, a few lay people get it in their heads that they can either adequately debate Chomsky or that they’re able to trap him in a “gotcha” moment. Chomsky is a world-renowned linguist, and that there are people out there who think they can trip him up or expect to get a pat answer out of a few leading questions amuses us to no end. Case in point: this recent talk Chomsky gave at the University of Florida where a 9/11 truther asked him a long-winded, leading question about building seven. I guess it’s because they’ve heard two or three things Chomsky has said that dovetail into their conspiracy theories, but they seem to believe that simply because they agree with a few things Chomsky says, Chomsky must agree with everything they say.

The result is utterly devastating in a way that only a Noam Chomsky beatdown can be:

My favorite line?

“There happen to be a lot of people around who spent an hour on the internet and think they know a lot of physics, but it doesn’t work like that”

The truther who asked the question also put it up on his youtube channel, and he’s predictably baffled by Chomsky’s “shocking” response– which, of course, isn’t shocking at all if you’ve bothered to read any of his books.

WHY IS ADAM KOKESH FREE?!

Typically, when someone is arrested for possession of a controlled substance and a weapon, they’re thrown into jail and seldom given bail. How is it then, that Adam Kokesh is out on five thousand dollars bond?

WHY IS THIS MAN FREE

WHY IS THIS MAN FREE?

Channel 9 reports:

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — Gun rights activist Adam Kokesh, who was was arrested July 9 for possessing hallucinogenic mushrooms while also having a gun at his home in Herndon, Va., will be released on $5,000 bond according to WUSA9’s Delia Gonçalves.

Kokesh, who has been held at the Fairfax Adult Detention Center, has also been ordered not to have guns according to Gonçalves.

Meanwhile, Barrett Brown has been mouldering in jail without a trial for over ten months for doing far, far less. Actually, that’s a good comparison– both Brown and Kokesh made the noob mistake of being on drugs and saying stupid shit into a camera and then having their front doors kicked in, but only Brown is being charged with crimes stemming from his actual journalism– namely “receiving and disseminating stolen information.” He’s facing upwards of 100 years for his work surrounding breaking the news about the massive private sector domestic spying operation known as Trapwire.

Doing what we do for so long has given us the knack for spotting certain behavior patterns– like what saw in Hal Turner. Hal would routinely go on his radio show and issue death threats against elected officials and repeat those same threats on message boards, but law enforcement never laid a finger on him. That is, until he admitted in court that he was a paid FBI informant. No, really.

We don’t have any love for Kokesh or his Frankenstein ideology of “anarcho-capitalism,” but we know a rat when we see one. We highlight Kokesh because of his ties to white supremacists, specifically his doe-eyed, softball interviews with white supremacist Kevin Deanna and the crypto-fascist Ron Paul movement. We also highlight him to warn any of the few poorly-informed leftists among his adherents that they should very seriously consider dropping Kokesh and his sideshow antics like a bag of hammers, lest they get caught up in whatever circus the FBI is trying to engineer. Oh, we know that they’d only pick up two or three friendless losers, but they’re people who probably wouldn’t have snapped were it not for Kokesh and his government sanctioned borderline personality disorder.

Sure, the police made a very impressive show of yanking out their armored personnel carriers and swat teams for some cretin with a mushroom habit, but just as soon as they caught him, they threw him back. The only question now is whether he’s acting as fly-paper or as a agent provocateur.

Right Wing Terrorism on the Rise!!!

ARE THEY SERIOUS?????

Jared Lee Loughner shot and wounded United States Congsswoman Gabrielle Giffords and twelve others and killed Federal Judge John McCarthy Roll and six others outside a Safeway in Tucson early Saturday, January Eighth, 2011.

Giffords had beaten the teabagger candidate, Jesse Kelly, to win her third term as a representative. Gabrielle Giffords’ office was also vandalized in March, just after health care reform was approved. Why is this important? Last March, Mike Vanderboegh boasted about his call to throw bricks through the local offices of representatives who voted for Health Care Reform. This message struck such a chord that he was invited to speak at the Open Carry rally in April. He’s trying to backpedal now, making the patently ridiculous claim that his call to violence was actually an action against this type of violence, but he’s trying to shove toothpaste back into the tube.

Giffords was also the member of Congress who read the First Amendment during the reading of the Constitution this past Thursday. Fate is not without a sense of irony.

Victim 9 yr old Christina Taylor Greene

Judge Roll was the target of a barrage of death threats in 2009, after he had ruled that a group of illegal immigrants could proceed with a multi-million dollar civil rights lawsuit against a state rancher. Gabe Zimmerman, Giffords’ aide and a nine-year old child who had recently been elected president of her school’s student council were also amongst the dead.

Loughner’s Youtube rants are–at best– incoherent and rambling; they display some of the same rudderless and agitated rhetoric that typified early missives from Francis E. Dec, who was suffering from a degenerating form of paranoid schizophrenia. He also posted a similarly rambling screed online, which can be read here.

Loughner apparently retains enough of his mental capabilities to invoke his right against self-incrimination, so we must wait for word on his motivations before we discover if he is “just another kook” or a symptom of something deeper. It is, however, not too much of a stretch to observe the connection between Loughner’s acts and the pathology of violence than infects the right wing.

This is a fine place to reprint a common sentiment around the ‘net today: If all muslims are branded as terrorists due to the acts of a tiny minority, why is it when white conservatives repeatedly do it, it’s just the act of lone nuts?

Anti-Racist Author Leonard Zeskind Speaks In DC

B&P_REV1B

November 5, 2009, Busboys and Poets in Washington DC- In the Cullen room, DC was treated to an appearance by Leonard Zeskind as he promoted his book, Blood and Politics. All of us here at Lady Liberty’s Lamp have read Blood and Politics and we think it’s the anti-racist bible. Referred to as “a life-long activist in repairing a badly torn world,” Zeskind spoke about the transformation of the white power movement into the white nationalist movement.

Zeskind began his talk about White Nationalism by stressing the importance of viewing it as a social movement. He pointed out that the White Nationalist movement may only have 30,000 hardcore members, but this is large in terms of social movements. Similarly, Zeskind noted, anti-immigrant organizations count 75,000 individual contributors. This way, these movements can maintain appearances of being bigger than they are. Zeskind went on to say that the current anti-immigrant movement is organized around keeping the United States as white as possible; here it finds common ground with the white nationalist movement. Zeskind attacked the stereotype of white nationalists as caricatures of uneducated whites, saying that the image of a tobacco-chewing redneck is at odds with the true makeup of the white nationalist movement. Leaders in white nationalism are predominantly middle class, with overall demographics consisting of individuals from all class levels in society. To illustrate this point, Zeskind highlighted several characters from his book, including the following:

-Richard Kelly Hoskins, a stockbroker from Lynchburg, Virginia who authored the homophobic and racist Phineas Priesthood Doctrines. Zeskind made a point to note that Hoskins’ life intersected with Senator Willis Robertson in their service of upholding Jim Crow. Readers of Lady Liberty’s Lamp will know that Willis Robertson is the father of televangelist Pat Robertson.

-Wayne Lutton, PhD; a prolific writer of anti-immigrant screeds and a minor figure in the holocaust denial movement.

-Arnie Watson, Trent Lott’s uncle. A major figure in the Council of Conservative Citizens, Arnie Watson was a state leader in Mississippi’s Council of Conservative Citizens. The Council of Conservative Citizens, of course, is a descendant of the segregationist White Citizens Councils.

TeabaggerNov5, 2009

Leonard Zeskind of the Institute For Research & Education on Human Rights

Zeskind continued his talk by speaking about the overall themes of his book: the penetration of white nationalist ideas into rational, mainstream discourse and that seemingly disparate elements like Sovreign Citizens, Free Men, Anti-14th Amendment crusaders, Christian Identity and the Militia movement all work in concert to serve a broader white nationalist agenda.

Zeskind explained that a major problem with white nationalism was that it lost all of the battles in the civil rights era. To explain this, white nationalists concocted the conspiracy that the civil rights struggle was conceived and controlled by Jews. From this, he said, white nationalism developed “white majority dispossession:” white nationalists see that everything that was theirs was taken from them. This thesis was put into print in 1972 by Wilmont Robertson’s book The Dispossesed Majority. Still being printed, the “white dispossession” argument was eagerly snapped up in the 70’s by David Duke, and used that in his reformation of the Ku Klux Klan. This argument truly caught on when Pat Buchanan incorporated it into his 1992 presidential campaign and garnerned three million votes from it. Zeskind also observed that Tea Partiers are co-opting the disposession rhetoric, which further underscored his point about the infiltration of white nationalist ideas into mainstream discourse.

Zeskind wrapped up his talk by recalling David Duke’s return to the limelight in 2004 after a lengthy prison term. Duke is at a meeting, and the topic for discussion is the future– white nationalists are preparing for a time when white people are no longer a majority. White Nationalism isn’t a problem left over from the sixties, it is preparing for battles in the future. Unless we as anti-racists prepare for this, he stated, we’re going to get blindsided. In order to adequately prepare, anti-racist activists need to form truly multi-racial anti-racist activist groups, since the most terrifying thing to a white nationalist is to see the races working together against racism.
